Eight new Covid-19 positive cases in Kerala, 13 tested negative

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state reported eight new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday. Four from Kannur, three from Kozhikode and one from Kasargod comprise the eight fresh cases. Among the new positive cases reported, five have travel history from Dubai and the rest have got the infection through direct contact from the positive persons.
Meanwhile, 13 patients under treatment across the state have recovered from Covid-19. Six from Kasargod, two each from Ernakulam and Palakkad, and one each from Kollam, Thrissur and Malappuram are those whose test results came as negative today.
As on Tuesday, 173 Covid-19 patients are undergoing treatment in the hospitals across the state, while 211 patients have totally recovered from the infection. The total cases reported in the state now have become 386.
Continuing the trend in the past few days, the number of people under surveillance in the state has further come down to 1,07,075. Of these, 1,06,511 are under observation at their homes and 564 are isolated in the designated isolation wards of various government hospitals. As many as 81 persons were hospitalised today.
So far, 16,235 samples from people with symptoms have been sent for testing and the results of 15,488 samples have been reported negative. At present 84 positive cases are admitted in various hospitals in Kasargod followed by Kannur with 43 positive cases, Kozhikode with 11 cases and Malappuram with nine cases.
The other positive cases admitted in various hospitals of each district are Thiruvananthapuram (2), Kollam (6), Pathanamthitta (6), Alappuzha (3), Ernakulam (5), Thrissur (1), Palakkad (2) and Wayanad (1). More number of people are under observation are Kozhikode (16,240), Palakkad (14,216) and Malappuram (12,189).
Lockdown extension

With the Centre deciding to extend the lockdown till May 3, the state government is expected to take a decision on how to continue with the restrictions in a day or two. Even though the state cabinet was decided to meet on Wednesday for this, sources said that the government is waiting for the official guidelines from the Centre. A final decision on how to relax the restrictions in those areas, which have not been declared as hotspots, is expected to be taken by the state government by Thursday.
