TIRUPATI: Tension gripped the Andhra Pradesh government's Covid-19 quarantine facility at Gooty in
Anantapur district, where a few people from Maharashtra placed under isolation entered into a heated altercation with the local police and later pelted stones on them on Monday.
According to
Gooty police, nearly 50 people belonging to various parts of Maharashtra are placed under isolation at a private engineering college premises in Gooty for nearly 2 weeks now.
The inmates at the quarantine who were growing restless and were desperate to move back to their respective native places, first entered into a heated altercation with the doctors and government officials present at the quarantine facility.
After being informed about the situation, Gooty police reached the government's quarantine facility and tried to pacify the inmates. The inmates however, told the police that despite the doctors certifying them as Covid-19 negative, they were not being allowed to travel back to their respective hometowns.
Meanwhile, the inmates who were not happy with the police intervention, pelted stones on the cops all of a sudden. One police constable identified as Ali was reportedly injured in the incident.
The cops on duty, informed about the incident to Anantapur district collector
Gandham Chandrudu and SP B Satya Yesu Babu. District administration sources said collector Gandham Chandrudu will visit the government quarantine facility later in the evening and address the concerns of the inmates at the quarantine.
