By- Piyush SarnaMOHALI: Deputy commissioner Girish Dayalan has ordered drones to be used for surveillance after a video showed Jagtapura buzzing with activity despite being sealed to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.
The locality has one positive case of Covid-19 — 55-yearold man who was an indirect contact of a Chandigarh patient.
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel too have been appointed to ensure nobody violates the curfew. But the video shows the situation is hardly one of a lockdown. In the video, people can be seen moving freely and children playing. Surprisingly, vendors too are open and selling their stuff, according to the footage. Hardly a few people can be seen wearing masks, with social distancing being a far cry. Mandeep Walia of Society For
Women Empowerment and
Rural Advancement, who claimed to have shared the video online, said, “One our workers made the video on April 10 when he went for work. I also shared the video on Twitter and told officials how people are enjoying the curfew.”
Jagatpura is one of the biggest colonies in Mohali with a population of 15,000 and above-.Dayalan said, “From now , officials will conduct drone surveillance. Anyone found violating the norms will be booked. People have to understand that the restrictions are for their own good.”
