Coronavirus Pune: Man convicted by the court for riding a bike without a mask

Pune: The Pune Cantonment court has convicted a 31-year-old man for riding bike unnecessarily during the coronavirus lockdown and also not wearing a mask as per rule at present. 

An FIR was registered with Lashkar police station against Mahesh Shantaram Dhumal, a resident of Nana Peth, who was found by cops at Indira Gandhi chowk on East Street in Camp on April 11. He was booked for offences under sections 188, 269 and 270 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act. Head constable Ganpat Thikole had complained against Dhumal.

Within two days, a charge-sheet was submitted in the court of judicial magistrate (first class) of the Pune Cantonment court. On Monday, the court found Dhumal guilty and convicted for the above offences. Dhumal was sentenced to pay fine of Rs 1,000.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the administration has banned movement vehicle except those engaged in essential services. Also, wearing a face mask has been made mandatory. 

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected State in India due to COVID-19 with over 2,000 cases. The cities of Mumbai and Pune are the hotbeds that have been marked the Red Zone. Globally, the corona death toll is nearing the 1.17 lakh-mark. Over 330 have died in India.
