VARANASI: Accommodating a Chinese woman tourist in his flat without informing foreigner record registration office (FRRO) of police has landed the flat owner in troubled waters.
Lanka police lodged a case against the flat owner Sambhav Chaturvedi of Saket Nagar under sections of Sarai Act and foreigners act, said SP City Dinesh Kumar Singh adding, the Chinese woman Pochnzhou Juhua has been quarantined in the same flat. Chaturvedi had misled his neighbours by terming the Chinese tourist as native of Manipur to avoid objections, said police.
The stay of a Chinese national in private accommodation came to light when some natives of Saket Nagar alerted Lanka police on Monday morning. Inspector Lanka Bharat Bhushan said that taking note of the complaint of locals, police raided the flat and checked the documents of Chinese woman when it came to light that she had arrived India on January 29 and initially she stayed at a guest house in Dashaswamedh area.
When the Janata-curfew was announced the guest house operator asked her to vacate his room, said police adding, on March 21 Chaturvedi accommodated this Chinese tourist in his flat without reporting the matter to FRRO. When Chaturvedi’s neighbours tried to know about his tenant he informed that he had accommodated a woman from Manipur, said Bhushan.
SP City said that after registration of this case Lanka police have also been directed to investigate the past records of Chaturvedi as during initial investigation it came to light that he had been accommodating foreigners in his flat in past.
