Remember when Dorothy said in The Wizard Of Oz, “There is no place like home”? Who knew that that would ring so true in the current day. All of us are thankful to be home as the world fights the global coronavirus epidemic. While staying in has it perks, the one thing that most of us find ourselves doing is sitting in front of the couch, wasting time scouting for movies to watch. To make things easy, we did some math, a bit of research, and came up with an all-inclusive list of movies that will allow you to stay entertained for 100 hours. Split it up over several days, or try to set a record; the choice is yours.
An icon in its own right, The Godfather is the first movie from the epic mafia trilogy based on Mario Puzo’s books, that inspired a thousand Brando impressions.

When Harry Met Sally is a romantic comedy that set the tone for the genre. The love story is sweet but not cloyingly so, and you will find yourself rooting for the couple even when they are at their worst.

The unlikely Cinderella story follows Julia Roberts as she steps into the thigh-high boots of Vivian Ward, a sex worker, and spends a romantic week with rich businessman Edward Lewis (Richard Gere). What happens next is a delightful romance that will make you fall in love with one of the most beloved films of the '90s.

In 2020, we go on dating apps to find a match. But in 1993, Sam Baldwin’s (Tom Hanks) son gets on the radio to find his widower father a new wife. Annie (Meg Ryan) hears his story and then writes him a letter—this results in them falling in love with each other by accident. Watch the duo leap hurdles to finally meet each other; cue the drum roll on top of the Empire State Building.

An adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, The Shawshank Redemption comes up if you look up the best prison movies to watch. It’s a story of a man who has been sentenced to a crime that the audience probably thinks he didn’t commit. Now, he must learn to live in his new environment and understand that not everything he knows is the truth, followed by the twist in the end that will leave you shocked long after the credits are over.

If you grew up believing ‘love is friendship’, you know exactly where we are going with this. Karan Johar’s directorial debut is the story of Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) a widowed father, who’s daughter, Anjali decides to find his father’s true love, Anjali (Kajol)—his best friend in college after reading her mother’s letters.

The Sixth Sense is a psychological thriller that's great for those without an appetite for blood and gore. The movie takes you through the life of little Cole (Haley Joel Osment), who's suffering from emotional problems, however, his doctor, Malcom (Bruce Willis) is not the best person to solve his problems—the reason for which you find out in the end.

Time: 1 hour 50 minutes
A modern adaptation of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, the movie takes us through the lives of two sisters and their overprotective father, who forbade them from dating in high school. A dreamy Heath Ledger, grand gestures of love, teenage angst—this movie is a good palette cleanser after a psychological thriller or a gangster flick.

A movie ahead of its time, Dil Chahta Hai explored themes like love and friendships in a relatable and fresh way. Farhan Akhtar’s directorial debut, the film takes you to the friendship of three close friends and the different ways of living their life and approaching relationships.

A combination that can do no wrong, Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant bring life to this office romance (or friendship). Bullock, a dedicated environmental lawyer, takes up a job at Grant’s massive company to ensure the safety of her local community centre and of course, they fall in love.

Love love triangles? You have to see the one that made all the coming-of-age kids of the Nineties cry their eyes out. Special mention to the G.U.J.J.U. song—if intense drama is not your scene, the song will make up for it.

A ‘how-to’ reporter, Andie Anderson’s (Kate Hudson) task is to get a guy to break up with her in 10 days for a column. She meets Ben Barry (Matthew McConaughey) who as a matter of fact, has bet with his coworkers that he’ll be able to make her fall in love with him. What happens next? Chaos, obviously.

A psychological thriller, The Prestige is the tale of two friends and their fellow magicians—who become bitter enemies after a tragedy. They devote themselves to this rivalry which results in a turn-of-the-century battle in London.

Amir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par revolves around the life of an eight-year-old Ishaan (Darsheel Safary) and his family—the difficulties they face because of his condition, dyslexia. The film was the first one in Bollywood to talk about learning disabilities and the stigma attached to them.

Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor’s Jab We Met is one of the finest romantic comedies in Bollywood. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the situations in the film will make you laugh, cry, dance and believe in the fact that love can happen twice and sometimes, on a train.

The story revolves around best friends Jai (Imran Khan) and Aditi (Genelia D’souza) and celebrates their friendship. The two know each other inside and out, but they never really got together romantically. However, after dating other people, they realise that they want to be with one another and it ends at the airport with Jai stops ‘Meow’ from getting on that plane.

Juno is the story of a girl’s unexpected pregnancy and her journey. It's a fresh and uncomplicated take on a serious topic, and explores subjects like friendships, parenthood and coming of age along the way.

In the mood for a romantic adventure? Up should be your pick. After his childhood love and wife Ellie passes, Carl decides to take an adventure and fulfil his wife’s wish of exploring Paradise Falls. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a thief who specialises in entering others’ dreams and stealing ideas. However, his next job turns the formula on its head; this time the aim is to plant an idea. Obviously, there are complications—the general unpredictability of dreams, and the ghost of Dom’s dead wife.
