United Airlines to resume additional international flights next month

Earlier, United Airlines decided to temporarily suspend its long-haul international routes. The decision came in light of the COVID-19 pandemic as the carrier wanted to abide by the developments in government regulations that made travel restrictions even more stringent.

Late last month the airline said in a press statement that it is closely monitoring demand as well as changes in state and local curfews and government restrictions across the U.S. It mentioned that operations and schedules will be adjusted according to the situation for the whole month.

United is currently looking forward to reinstating three European routes. United Airlines will begin to fly between its hub in Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and London Heathrow (LHR) once again starting May 4. United has listed the route as red-eye flown by Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, flight number UA931.

In addition, the carrier will also resume flights between Newark (EWR) and Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) on the same day. Flights will also be returned to Frankfurt (FRA) from Washington (IAD) on May 4. All of the above services is scheduled for daily operations.

Previously, United suspended the transatlantic flights that were still operating in March. The service between Cape Town in South Africa and Newark in the U.S was included in the cancellation plan. United also made its final flight to Central and South America on March 21 with its final long-haul international journey over the Pacific being on March 25.

However, United now looks forward to restarting the carrier and its operations but with a proper cautious approach. The airline is planning to resume operations gently in routes that are currently suspended. It hopes to send flights over the Atlantic once again at the beginning of May. It also has plans to operate services to two South American cities.

A daily flight will depart Houston (IAH) for Bogota (BOG) in Colombia in May. United will also fly to Buenos Aires (EZE) from George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston the same day. This service will only be available thrice per week. It complements the existing widebody routes to destinations including Sydney, Tel Aviv, and Sao Paulo.
