THANE: The “Islampur pattern” may be enforced in Kalwa and Mumbra in light of the rise in Covid-19 cases there, declared local MLA
Jitendra Awhad on Saturday.
Awhad praised the stern measures adopted by party colleague
Jayant Patil, the MLA from Islampur in
Sangli district, and said these had helped contain the novel coronavirus disease after 26 cases were reported there.
Kalwa and Mumbra together accounted for 21 of the 38 cases found within the
Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) limits till Friday.
“I have noticed how Patil has handled the situation in his constituency and taken some stern steps, which eventually bore results,” Awhad said. “I plan to replicate it in Kalwa and Mumbra as the number of positive cases here has reached 21.”
The TMC also intensified efforts to stop transmission of the novel coronavirus.
It made public a list of 15 containment zones and directed local teams to intensify surveillance there even as it appealed to residents to not venture out. “We are regularly fumigating nearby areas and have sealed off structures where positive cases were found,” deputy municipal commissioner
Sandeep Malvi said.
The TMC is also likely to set up two laboratories, one at Wadia Hospital in Tembhi Naka and another at Kalwa hospital, to save the time lost in sending samples for analysis to Mumbai, said an official, requesting anonymity.
