CHANDIGARH: The police on Wednesday arrested two men posing as mediapersons for allegedly trying to smuggle heroin into the city from Zirakpur. During a routine checking at the Zirakpur-Chandigarh barrier, cops stopped the car of the accused - Monu and Uttam, both 19-year-old and residents of Sector 52. They introduced themselves as reporters of a news channel and produced fake ID cards, which they were using for free movement during the lockdown. Travelling in a Tata Tiago car, the accused said they were coming after dropping their friend at Sector 9, Panchkula, who was very sick. On suspicion, the cops searched their car and recovered 100 grams of heroin.
Initial investigations revealed that Munna has a criminal past and was arrested in two criminal cases. The car was owned by Vikas, brother of Uttam. They had gone to Ambala and purchased heroin for sale in the Tricity.
A local court remanded them in two-day police custody.
