A gunman is on the loose near Perth and police have locked down nearby streets.

The man is believed to be in Ellenbrook, north east of the city, and police have closed off Maralla Road and Railway Parade near the Ellenbrook Speedway.

Western Australia Police has told people to stay away from the area.
