Delhi Police has registered a case against the owner of iconic Bengali Pastry Shop in posh Bengali Market in central Delhi. The case was registered after the NDMC and Delhi Police found 35 people living above the shop in unhygenic conditions in a cramped space despite instructions to observe proper social distancing.
The 35 workers were discovered during a house-to-house survey in the area, initiated after three cases of novel coronavirus were reported from the vicinity. The workers have been moved to a shelter home on the directive of New Delhi DM Tanvi Garg.
The emergence of Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, Bengali Market and nearby areas were added to the list of containment zones and sealed to stop any further spread of the virus.
The owner of Bengali Pastry Shop has been booked for violating norms of social distancing. The case has been filed under various provisions of IPC, Disaster Management Act read with Epidemic Act.
