Noida: The district administration and the authorities of
Gautam Budh Nagar have taken over the distribution of food and
essential items from the police, which will now only take
emergency calls. The decision came on the day 22 areas in Noida were identified as Covid-19
hotspots and sealed.
“Residents should not dial 112 for essential items and groceries. The job will now be done by the administration and the authorities. Police will only help in exceptional cases – if the elderly or women, for instance, face an emergency,” said ADG (technical services) Asim Arun.
The Noida and Greater Noida authorities assured residents of regular supply of essential items at their doorstep.
“Do not indulge in panic buying. Visit Noida App on Google Playstore and order what is needed,” said Noida CEO
Ritu Maheshwari. Residents can also call
Noida Authority’s helpline, 8860032939. Calls can also be made to the Noida control room at 1800 419 2211. This applies only to areas that have not been sealed. Special vendors will be chosen to deliver in fully sealed hotspots, she tweeted later at night.
For Greater Noida residents, the helpline is 8595567809. Greater Noida Authority CEO Narendra Bhooshan said passes will be issued to people in the supply chain and a team set up to distribute essential items from Thursday. In hotspots, which have been sealed, only authorized delivery personnel will be allowed. Passes which have already been issued will be reviewed, ACP (law and order) Akhilesh Singh said.
A statement by DGP HC Awasthi in Lucknow said the administration will have to provide an ambulance in a medical emergency. Besides, stepping out without a mask will be penalised. “Visiting public places without covering the face would be considered a violation of the Epidemic Diseases Act and UP Epidemic Diseases Regulations, 2020. Legal action will be taken against the violator,” the order, issued by principal secretary Amit Mohan Prasad, said.
