CCTV footage from thrashed engineer’s building backs his claim

THANE: Police, investigating the assault on civil engineer Anant Karmuse, have sourced from his residential complex CCTV footage which shows a few men escorting him — a claim Karmuse had made.
The footage — possibly captured on Sunday night when, Karmuse claimed, he was attacked at the behest of minister Jitendra Awhad — shows three men, one in uniform, entering the complex. In another visual, the men walk down to a flat, presumably Karmuse’s. Later, they can also be seen returning with him.
According to Karmuse’s complaint, the men, who had identified themselves as cops, took him to Awhad’s home where he was thrashed in the presence of the minister for posting “objectionable” matter against him on social media. Awhad refuted the allegations on Wednesday, and instead claimed to have received threats. He shared the screenshots of such messages he received on his social media account and tagged the CM. BJP leader Kirit Somaiyya said he tried to visit Karmuse at his home on Wednesday evening, but was refused entry at Anand Nagar check naka by police, who cited Covid-19 prohibitory orders.
