669 positive cases of COVID-19 in national capital, 426 from Markaz: Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain

The Delhi Government on Wednesday said that 20 COVID-19 hotspots have been identified in the national capital, and nobody will be allowed to enter or exit from these areas.

As the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic outbreak continues to spread like wildfire in India, the Health Minister of Delhi, Satyendra Jain, on Thursday briefed the media regarding the situation in the national capital, where he said that out of the 669 positive cases of COVID-19 in Delhi, as many as 426 are from the Tablighi Jamaat event at the Nizamuddin Markaz mosque in the city.

"Till now, there are 669 COVID-19 positive cases in the city, including 426 cases from Markaz," Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said.

Jain also informed that rapid testing for COVID-19 will be started as soon as the testing kits arrive. "Testing will be first done in the COVID-19 hotspots in the city. We have demanded the rapid testing kits from the Centre and have given orders to companies as well," he said.

The Delhi Government on Wednesday said that 20 COVID-19 hotspots have been identified in the national capital, and nobody will be allowed to enter or exit from these areas. "Some positive cases have been reported in Sadar area so the area has been sealed. A total of 20 hot spots have been identified in Delhi, nobody will be allowed to enter or exit from these areas," Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had said.

Addressing the issue of people getting essential supplies in these hotspots, the Delhi Health Minister on Thursday said, "The areas that are sealed are small and home delivery will be provided there. If people do not follow lockdown then there will be more difficulties in the future."

When asked about two women resident doctors of Safdarjung Hospital who were allegedly assaulted, Jain said, "If this has happened then there will be legal action against the culprit. There should be no discrimination against doctors, paramedics and against those are providing essential services in these times."

A 44-year-old man was arrested late on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting two women resident doctors of Safdarjung Hospital after accusing them of "spreading coronavirus," said Delhi Police.

Meanwhile, Mayurdhwaj Apartment in Delhi’s IP Extension has been declared as ‘containment zone’ by the Delhi Government. Barricading has been done by Delhi Police outside the apartment keeping in mind coronavirus lockdown.

On the other side, lane number 9 of Pandav Nagar was also declared as ‘containment zone’ yesterday.

Delhi Police personnel have been deployed in the areas to maintain law and order situation. All movements will be completely barred from the areas to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The Delhi government identified 20 hotspots on April 08 and sealed them completely. Vardhaman Apartment in Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension has also been identified as a 'containment zone' by Delhi Government.
