10 fresh coronavirus cases push Mohali count to 36

The administration has already sealed Jawaharpur village in Derabassi
MOHALI: Covid-19 cases on Wednesday jumped to 36 in Mohali - the highest in Punjab - with 10 more testing positive.
All the new patients are from Jawaharpur village in Derabassi that has emerged as a hotspot. It alone has 21 cases now.

All the new patients are relatives of 42-year-old panch who was the first to test positive from the village on April 5. Two of them are 56 years old, another 53 years old and one of the men is 61 years old. One of the patients is also a panch of the village.
From Jawaharpur alone, the health authorities have taken 142 samples so far. The total samples taken in the district are 629 as of today.
On Tuesday, seven people from Jawaharpur had tested positive. They were 39-year-old sarpanch, her 42-year-old husband and two children, 19-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son. The other three were a 61-year-old woman, her 35-year-old daughter-in-law and her 16-year-old grandson. All of them had been infected by the 42-year-old panch, deputy commissioner Girish Dayalan had said. The panch, who owns a tent house, along with the members of these two families had been distributing food to the needy ever since the lockdown came into force two weeks back. The panch on March 31 had come in contact with a foreman who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation at Nizamuddin in Delhi. "We are fighting an invisible enemy. We are winning against the disease by making it visible through extensive testing. There is no need to panic. But do take all precautions," said Dayalan.
