2020 Caterham Super Seven 1600 Launched With Retro-Themed Styling

Caterham has made a new addition to its modern sports car lineup with the 2020 Super Seven 1600, available either as a kit or factory-built, in the standard S3 or wide-chassis SV versions.

Slotting between the Seven 360 and Seven 420 in terms of pricing, the new Caterham Super Seven 1600 starts from £33,495 ($41,379) in the United Kingdom, excluding tax, and can also be had from £325.99 ($403) a month for 48 months.

Inspired the original Super Seven, the new 1600 model features the classic flared front wings, spare wheel and carrier, and can be had in a choice of seven heritage paint finishes, including Racing Green, Caribbean Blue, Saxony Grey, Tuscany Red, Red & Oxford White, Bordeau, and Serengeti Orange. Unlike most vehicles made today, it eschews the oversized wheels, coming with a 14-inch set that continues the retro-inspired styling shod in Avon ZT7 tires.

The interior continues the special design, boasting classically tailored leather upholstery and a wooden-rimmed steering wheel.

The Ford Sigma 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine rests under the hood. It kicks out 135 PS (133 HP / 99 kW) at 6,800 rpm and 165 Nm (122 lb-ft) of torque at 4,100 rpm, which may not sound like much, but the car tips the scales at only 565 kg (1,246 lbs).

This translates into a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) acceleration of 5.0 seconds, while flat out it will do 122 mph (196 km/h). Changing gears is done by hand, with the 5-speed manual transmission.
