Over 27,400 cases filed for violating lockdown in Maharashtra

MUMBAI: The police filed 27,432 cases under Section 188 of the CrPC till Wednesday for violation of prohibitory orders across the state.
They have seized 12,420 vehicles and collected over Rs 95.5 lakh in fines in the two and a half weeks of the lockdown.
The seizures were for unnecessarily bringing vehicles out on the roads.
The police have filed 15 FIRs against 156 Tablighi Jamaat members under the Foreigners Act, which includes three cases and 32 accused in the city. The foreigners had travelled to the state after attending a religious congregation in Delhi.
The police took action against 438 people who were sent to institutional quarantine after they were found violating home quarantine measures. During the lockdown period, 161 were arrested for assaulting 60 policemen across the state.
The state police report also showed that two policemen had been infected with coronavirus.
The police control room attended 58,009 emergency calls on 100 pertaining to Covid-19. The police registered 977 offences against illegal transportation.
Additional director general of police (law and order) Milind Bharambe said citizens were requested not to violate restrictions imposed by the administration and the police.
“It is requested to help police and administration in enforcing lockdown. It is informed that any violations will be dealt with firmly as per law including apprehension of the offenders and appropriate action under the preventive sections of law,” he said.
