NAVI MUMBAI: The Panvel city and Kharghar police detained 12 men on Wednesday and 46 men on Thursday as they had stepped out of their homes for morning walk despite prohibitory orders in place.
Senior inspector Pradip Tidar of Kharghar police station said, "The 46 men, who were doing a morning walk, were detained for violating a prohibition order preventing assembly of four or more persons in public place as section 144 of crime procedure code has been enforced during lockdown till April 14."
Senior inspector Ajay Landge said, "The 12 men were caught in the vicinity of Ballaleshwar lake and Thane naka area in Panvel between 7 am and 8 am. When asked by the patrolling cops as to why they were on the streets despite a lockdown as they were not carrying any bag in case they were going to buy milk or grocery, they claimed that they were doing morning walk for fitness. As they violated prohibition order, they were escorted to Panvel city police station and an FIR was registered against all the men, who have been booked under section 188 of the IPC for disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant."
Landge further said, "The citizens are requested to do physical exercise at home and not step out of their homes for morning or evening walks, as it is strictly prohibited during lockdown. It has been observed that many people step out of homes under pretext of morning or evening walks to get rid of their boredom due to the compulsion of stay at home during lockdown till April 14. But, citizens have been requested to cooperate to avoid unnecessary crowding on streets to prevent spread of Covid-19."
