LUCKNOW: The Covid-19 tally for Uttar Pradesh reached 378 on Wednesday with 38 new cases in the past 24 hours. The list included 24 positive cases with Tablighi Jamaat connection taking the tally of cases with Nizamuddin event links to 214. The state also recorded the fourth
coronavirus death with the demise of a 76-year-old woman at SN Medical College, Agra.
Giving details about the death, Agra DM Prabhu N Singh said: "Resident of Kamla Nagar locality, the woman tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday. She was undergoing treatment at SN Medical College where doctors recorded that she had a history of interstitial lung disease (ILD) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and was isolated under critical condition. Doctors tried their best but could not save her."
Meanwhile, Agra recorded two new cases which took the district's tally to 65, highest in the state. CMO Mukesh Kumar Vats said, "the patients are wife and daughter of a lab technician who worked at a private hospital sealed after the owner and his son tested positive for the infection."
Lucknow recorded maximum five cases, all linked to Tablighi Jamaat connection. "All the five patients are residents of Sadar area which has been declared a hot spot now," said CMO Narendra Agarwal, adding, "All the patients either are jamaat attendees or those who came in their contact. With this, the tally for Lucknow reached 29 with 17 TJ cases."
Sitapur, too, saw two more Jamaat-linked cases taking the tally to eight while one more person from Shamli who attended the Nizamuddin event tested positive for the infection. The district total now stands at 17.
Three Jamaat members aged about 50, 27 and 35 years, who attended Nizamuddin conference in Delhi and returned to Pratapgarh on March 13, have also tested positive for coronavirus infection.
SP (Pratapgarh) Abhishek Singh said: "The three were declared Covid-19 positive at KGMU Lucknow."
Rampur also saw its first set of five coronavirus positive cases on Wednesday. All of them are residents of Uttarakhand's Haldwani district. DM AK Singh said: "They are part of a group of 13 persons who were trying to escape to their native place in Haldwani through the forest area. While 11 were caught by our team, two sneaked though."
Asked to comment on the connection of the patients with the Tablighi Jamat, the DM said: "though the questioning is under way, we have gathered that the persons had attended religious functions in Bareilly and Moradabad. However as for now, they are not connected to the New Delhi's jamaat."
After four days, Gautam Budh Nagar recorded four new cases, taking the district tally to 62. CMO AP Chaturvedi said: "the two patients' are spouses of two employees at the Cease Fire factory." Details of the other cases was being gathered. Kaushambi also recorded a positive case, taking the district tally to two.
