What we know so far
- In Australia, the death toll stands at 51 and there are 6089 confirmed cases, including 495 in WA.
- The global death toll from coronavirus has passed 86,000. There are more than 1.4 million known cases of infection but more than 315,000 people have recovered, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.
- Health Minister Greg Hunt says the curve continues to flatten, with fewer than 100 people contracting the virus in the past 24 hours. As of lunchtime, more than 6000 Australians have tested positive, 260 are in hospital, 82 remain in intensive care and 35 are on ventilators.
- The national cabinet is preparing for the possibility parents will rush children back into classrooms after the Easter holidays and stretch school resources, as coronavirus restrictions take their toll on families.
- Parliament has passed the $130 billion JobKeeper wage subsidy scheme. More than 730,000 businesses have signed up for the scheme, which is designed to keep millions of employees on payroll.
