LUCKNOW: Panic gripped the Trauma Centre of King George's Medical University (KGMU) late on Wednesday night when a fire broke out - in a repeat of July 10, 2017 incident - due to short-circuit on the second floor which houses emergency and critical care units, forcing evacuation of about 130 patients.
Though the flames were doused in about 30 minutes, confusion and chaos continued for an hour with smoke engulfing the building, posing problems to people.
On Wednesday, only about 180 patients were under treatment at the Trauma Centre as admission has dropped due to the lockdown. Most of people as well as doctors and staff members were wearing masks in view of Covid-19 scare, which came handy at the time of fire.
