Maharashtra: Driver held for ferrying 82 men to UP

PUNE: Bhosari MIDC police in the early hours of Wednesday intercepted a truck at Moshi toll plaza and found as may 82 men travelling in it.
All the 82 men were workers at different areas in Kudalwadi in Chikhali and were heading towards their home town in Uttar Pradesh amid coronavirus outbreak in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.
The police have arrested the tempo driver Govind Sukhhari (24) of Kudalwadi under sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 269 ( Whoever unlawfully or negligently does any act which is likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life) of the Indian Penal Code and the relevant sections of the Epidemic Diseases Act and Disaster Management Act
Senior inspector of the Bhosari MIDC police Rajendra Kunte told TOI that on Wednesday around 2.45am the police team deployed at the Moshi toll plaza intercepted a truck. "The driver told the police that he was transportion some goods. When our police checked the tempo they found people hiding behind the bags" Kunte said.
He said there were about 82 men at the backside of the tempo. "All of them were from Uttar Pradesh," Kunte said adding, "These men were workers in Kudalwadi area and wanted to return home as currently no work available due to lockdown."
