LUDHIANA: In an overwhelming gesture of appreciating the cops, residents of
New Kitchlu Nagar welcomed them by showering flowers on them on Monday evening, when the latter had gone there for daily patrolling. Besides, children in Gopal Nagar of Haibowal area also welcomed them in the locality by waving Indian flags.
Every day, police personnel, who are working hard for almost 14 hours a day amid the coronavirus fear, take a round of different localities under their jurisdiction for keeping a check on the effectiveness of lockdown and to cross-check supply of essential goods at their doorstep.
On Monday evening, assistant commissioner of police (west)
Sameer Verma, along with sub inspector Mohan Lal, SHO at Haibowal police station, along with other cops, had gone on a round in different localities under their jurisdiction. When the cops reached New Kitchlu Nagar,
Hambran road, the cops were overwhelmed to see the residents shower flowers on them.
An Australian citizen, who is now an advocate in city,
Vikram Pandit (41) of New Kitchlu Nagar said, “Every day cops visit our locality. They make announcements asking residents about their problems and whether they are getting essential goods or not. On Monday evening, when cops reached our locality, my family decided to shower flowers on them to appreciate their job.”
Vikram, along with his wife Bhavna Pandit and two daughters Sirshti and Kaavya, plucked flowers from their garden and started showering over the vehicles of cops. On seeing them, other residents too joined them.
Bhavna, who is also principal of N M Jain School, shared, “We must appreciate these cops who are out on roads, vulnerable to coronavirus. Leaving their families back in home, they are working for hours for us. It was just a random thought of showering flowers over them when he heard the hooter.”
Further in Gopal Nagar area of
Haiowal, kids stood outside housed with Tricolours in their hands when cops visited their area.
ACP-west Sameer Verma said, “It feels good when public appreciates your work. It is our job to help and serve them.”
