Inflammatory posts on Tablighi Jamaat see a rise on social media

Gurgaon: A sudden uptick in inflammatory posts and videos is being witnessed on social media in the wake of an increase in the number of Covid-19 positive cases related to the Tablighi Jamaat.
To curb the circulation of false information, Gurgaon police are continuously scanning social media platforms.
Along with social media websites, police is also keeping an eye on the chat groups. So far, two persons have been arrested for sharing inflammatory posts on WhatsApp groups.
“Some WhatsApp groups have emerged as a major source of misinformation. People are posting fake messages in such group which get forwarded to many other groups leading to chaos,” a senior police officer said, adding that they are trying to check such misinformation at an early stage to prevent it from becoming viral.
Police commissioner Mohammad Akil said cyber police station along with the crime units are working round the clock to keep a tab on such misleading posts. “All our units are active and they are taking action in a short span after receiving any complaint or noticing any inflammatory post or message,” Akil added.
Along with the person who created those messages those who forward them will also face legal action, the commissioner said.
On April 4, a tax consultant was arrested from Baskushla village for spreading rumours on social media. On April 6, a resident of Rampura was arrested for sharing inflammatory post on a WhatsApp group.
