Covid claims 55-year-old woman, KDMC toll now 2

KALYAN: A 55-year-old woman from Kalyan died of Covid-19 during treatment at Jagjivan Ram Hospital, Mumbai Central, late on Monday night. In Kalyan-Dombivli, 35 have tested positive, included two who died. Last week, a 67-year-old woman from Dombivli (E) died of coronavirus at Kasturba Hospital.
Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporaion (KDMC) commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi suspended ward officer Bhagaji Bhangare for failing to stop a wedding that took place on March 19 with over 1,000 guests, that infected seven people, including the 67-year-old woman who died.
Officials said the 55-yearold, who lived in Beturkarpada, returned from Dubai in the third week of March. She got admitted to Railway Hopsital for health issues on April 3. As her condition worsened, she was transferred to Byculla Hospital, where she tested positive. Her husband and son’s test results are awaited. On Tuesday, Beturkarpada was sanitised by KDMC health department teams. The door-to-door survey of locals was also started.
Meanwhile, KDMC has ordered an enquiry into the delay of ambulance services after a 20-year-old suspected coronavirus patient said he had to walk 3kms to reach the hospital with his 50-year-old mother, after an ambulance failed to arrive for three hours after he had called 108.
