The High Court on Tuesday dismissed the interim bail plea of Shivinder Mohan Singh, a former promoter of Fortis Healthcare and Ranbaxy Company, jailed in money laundering case. Shivinder had sought bail in the jail, contending that the social distance norms were not met in order to escape, citing the threat of corona in prison.

A single bench of Justice Mukta Gupta said after hearing through video conferencing that more than one case is going on on Shivinder Singh and none has been granted bail. Campinder has cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Money Laundering Act. Therefore, bail cannot be granted. Seeking 60 days of interim bail, Shivinder Singh had said in the petition that the jail is very crowded. Social distance cannot be maintained there. Therefore he is at risk of corona infection. In the petition, he said that he has a lot of experience in the health sector. He did a great job at the time of the floods in Uttarakhand. His experiences can be used to help people by releasing him on bail.

The plea contended that investigation in all the three cases against Shivinder had been completed. Evidence, in this case, is available in the document. Earlier, at the time of the death of a relative, Shivinder was granted interim bail for a week. After this, he surrendered. Opposing this interim bail plea, Delhi Police said that they have filed a writ petition, not a bail petition. The criteria set by the High Power Committee for the release of prisoners has also not been challenged. Delhi Police said that the Supreme Court in its decision had given the power to the High Power Committee to take a decision. Police told the bench that Shivinder has been kept in a separate cell so that there is no question of corona infection. Meanwhile, the ED also opposed interim bail.
