Tamil Nadu: VHP, HM members booked

COIMBATORE: Police on Tuesday registered separate cases against a Hindu Munnani functionary and a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) functionary for posting hate messages against a minority community on social media.
The Sulur police registered a case against Hindu Munnani functionary Ananth for posting a message on his Facebook page connecting the spread of Covid-19 with a minority community.
The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by U Mujibur Rahman, 40, of GM Nagar at South Ukkadam, and district secretary of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK). Police registered a case against Ananth under sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc.,) and 505 (2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill will between classes) of the Indian Penal Code.
Similarly, the Anaimalai police registered a case against VHP functionary Ganesh Babu for posting images and messages criticizing a minority community and their religious practices on his Facebook page.
The case was registered under sections 294 (b), 295 (A) and 505 (1) (B) of the IPC. tnn
