BENGALURU: A dozen more were added to
Karnataka’s tally of Covid-19-infected patients on Tuesday, taking the total number to 175. On a brighter note, 25 patients have been discharged so far across the state.
Four of the new patients had participated in the Tablighi Jamaat (TJ) congregation in Delhi, while another four are contacts of delegates who had tested positive earlier.
While four of Tuesday’s cases are from Bengaluru, three are from Mandya, two each from Bagalkot and Kalaburagi and one from Gadag. The Gadag and Mandya patients are the first from the two districts.
Three of the Bengaluru patients, aged 29, 50 and 35 years, had participated in the TJ meet. The fourth is a 68-year-old-man who returned from Dubai.
The Mandya patients are three men aged 32, 36 and 65 years. They are contacts of five TJ participants, who had tested positive earlier in Mysuru. A 33-year-old TJ delegate from Mudhol, Bagalkot district, is among the new patients. Two Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) patients – an 80-year-old woman from Gadag and a 57-year-old man from Kalaburagi – are also infected.
S Suresh Kumar, education minister, said 27 TJ attendees have tested positive so far. Of the throat swabs samples collected from 920 delegates, 623 were negative. Results are awaited on the rest. Meanwhile, ICMR has allowed 65 private labs to conduct tests. They include four from Bengaluru.
