CHENNAI: With Union government clarifying on spending of Corporate Social Responsibility funds for
coronavirus, chief minister
Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday made an appeal to the corporates to contribute generously to CM’s public relief fund to take up preventive measures even better.
Palaniswami said the government has issued an order to utilise the contributions made to CM’s public relief fund between March 23 and June 30 for several preventive measures. “This included, procurement of personal protective equipment, medical equipment, including ventilators for hospitals, isolation facilities, strengthening public health infrastructure and preventive health care, food to homeless poor and migrant workers, and distribution of dry food items,” he said.
The ministry of corporate affairs has clarified in a circular on March 23 that spending of
CSR funds for Covid-19 was eligible for CSR activity, given that World
Health Organisation declared coronavirus outbreak as pandemic and Union government treated it as a notified disaster. The ministry said the funds could be spent on promotion of health care, including preventive health care and sanitation and disaster management. The broad-based items in Schedule VII of CSR policy could be interpreted liberally for Covid-19.
