MOHALI: Seven members of two families tested positive for novel coronavirus on Tuesday, taking the total number of cases in Mohali to 26 — the highest in Punjab.
They are 39-year-old sarpanch of Jawaharpur village in Derabassi, her 42-year-old husband and two children, 19-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son. The other three are a 61-year-old woman, her 35-year-old daughter-in-law and her 16-year-old grandson — all too from Jawaharpur.
Deputy commissioner Girish Dayalan said all these seven people were infected by the 42-year-old panch of the village. The panch, who owns a tent house and tested positive three days back, along with the members of these two families had been distributing food to the needy ever since the lockdown came into force two weeks back.
The administration is scrambling to trace the langar attendees. The village has been put under emergency but is yet to be declared a hotspot, the DC said. “The village has been sealed. Extensive sampling is being conducted. Health teams are identifying symptomatic as well as asymptomatic persons from each house. Orders have been issued to make a list of those who participated in distribution and partaking of langar from the families.
The panch on March 31 had come in contact with a foreman who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation at Nizamuddin in Delhi.
