GURUGRAM: Two more people tested
positive for the novel
coronavirus (Covid-19) in Gurugram on Tuesday, taking the total number of cases in the district to 18 (excluding the 14 Italians who were admitted to Medanta hospital).
The health department has not released any details on the new cases. However, according to a source in the know of the matter, while one patient is a Sector 28 resident, the other belongs to Pataudi and is from the Tablighi Jamaat (TJ) chain, making him the third such case in the city.
While the first TJ-related case was reported on Thursday of a 38-year-old Devilal Colony resident, another man from Pataudi tested positive later on. Both the patients were booked for allegedly concealing information about their participation in the Jamaat in Nizamuddin last month.
The 27-year-old Pataudi man who tested positive on Tuesday had been admitted to the isolation ward at Sector 10’s Civil Hospital on Saturday. He had attended the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi on March 18.
With more attendees being tested, the health department is expecting a spike over the next few days. As per the health bulletin, Gurugram has 153 people under surveillance at various quarantine centres.
So far, 6,755 people have been put under surveillance in the district, out of which 916 have completed the surveillance period. The health department has sent 905 samples for testing, of which 851 are negative and 18 positive. The results of 36 tests are awaited.
Meanwhile, the state breached the three-figure mark with 33 new cases on Tuesday. From a total of 29 on April 1 to 129 on April 7, Haryana has seen an increase of 100 cases in the past seven days.
According to the state government’s data, among the 129 confirmed cases, 10 are foreign nationals, including six from Sri Lanka, one each from Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia and South Africa. However, 50 of them are from other states, including Uttar Pradesh (11), Bihar (8), Tamil Nadu (7),
West Bengal (4), Kerala (5), three each from Maharashtra and J&K, two each from
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and one each from
Punjab, Karnataka, Assam and MP.
According to health minister Anil Vij, the government is testing around 400 samples in 24 hours in six laboratories. So far, it has put 20,795 people under surveillance.
