BHUBANESWAR: Taking his queue from
Centre , state leader of opposition from BJP,
Pradipta Kumar Naik, on Tuesday urged the state government to slash the
salaries of all the MLAs and ministers of the state and also stop the the funding for the MLALAD to create a fund to tackle the Covid-19.
In a statement, Naik requested the state government to cut the salaries of all the MLAs and ministers by 30% for one year and also drop the MLALAD funding for two years as was done by the Centre for the MPs and for MPLAD fund. "The entire nation is going through a tough time due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus disease. It is high time leaders like us came forward and took steps whatever we could in our capacity. I proposed to create a fund for Covid-19 by cutting down salaries of the MLAs and dropping the MLALAD funding," Naik said. He further proposed that not only the MLAs and ministers but also salaries of chairpersons and presidents of different development councils and other government-owned industrial and other bodies be slashed by 30% so that it could be contributed to the corona fund.
