Amid prevalent chaos and uncertainty over access to the essential services and commodities during the lockdown, we bring you the latest updates from your city.
* Update at 12.11pm: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has urged people not to venture out during the Shab-e-Barat and said all burial grounds in the city will remain closed, except for burials, on the occasion.
* Update at 9.31am: Indian Army yesterday facilitated the safe return of 21-year-old Togley Singkaman of Arunachal Pradesh who crossed China on 19th March. The Army had approached the Chinese Army and he was handed back yesterday. He is quarantined for COVID-19 by the Army: PRO Defence, Tezpur (Assam), reports ANI

* Unlike some states, the Bengal government is not in favour of extending the lockdown beyond April 15 across the state and has instead identified seven hotspots that may be put under quarantine in the post-lockdown days to contain the novel coronavirus from spreading.
* West Bengal government is going to procure 3 million hydroxychloroquine tablets and has already placed orders for it, a senior Nabanna official said on Monday. “We are expecting the supply in phases before the lockdown period is over,” the official said.
* Swab samples of 30 healthcare providers attached with NRS Medical College and Hospital have tested negative to Covid-19, much to the relief of the hospital authority and the state health department. Currently, 79 healthcare workers are under isolation at the government’s quarantine centre at New Town. More samples are being sent for confirmatory tests.
* The state government on Tuesday added two names to the list of Covid-19 deaths in Bengal. The death toll in Bengal now stands at five. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee said the newly formed expert committee had confirmed these deaths.
* Two more private labs in the city — Peerless Hospital and AMRI Hospital Salt lake — has received ICMR nod to start testing Covid-19 samples, taking the count of private labs to four in the state. Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals and Tata Medical Centre are the two others that can test swab samples of corona suspects. With the five government laboratories, including three in Kolkata, the state now is equipped with nine laboratories to test samples.
* Alcohol-based hand sanitisers, produced under the state government’s watch, are likely to be made available in the city’s retail pharmaceutical outlets by end of this week. Hand sanitisers, which are being sold at a premium by a section of pharma retail outlets in the city, is likely to be priced much below the cap set by the Union health ministry.
