AMBALA: Over 83 FIRs have been registered in
Ambala district so far, for violation of lockdown restrictions and at least 95 people arrested,
police said on Tuesday.
Most of the cases have been registered in the urban areas of the district within the last three days on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, where the residents have been caught jumping the lockdown norms. The district police have booked them under Section 188 (disobedience of orders duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and in some cases Section 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), and 271 (disobedience of quarantine rule) of the IPC.
In some cases, the residents when caught roaming outside their houses without even wearing masks on city roads, gave reason to the police that they got bored at home, therefore, they came out and the police acted strictly and registered cases against them.
In a case registered at
Ambala City police station on Tuesday, two residents of Nadi Mohalla were caught roaming in a car while playing the music at a high volume. The duo has been booked under section 188 and 269 of the IPC.
Ambala superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Jorwal said, "We are in an important phase of the lockdown period and if people are noticed roaming in the district without any reason, we will act strictly and register cases against them. Awareness is also being spread among the residents, and despite, if somebody takes the law in their hand, the police will act accordingly”.
"Earlier, the police issued traffic challans to the violators and since the residents did not stop coming out, now we are registering FIRs against them", added SP Jorwal.
