MUMBAI: With help from cellphone firms, the state home department was able to trace the presence of 1,885 individuals from Mumbai in the vicinity of the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi, which led to a spike in Covid-19 cases across India, reports Prafulla Marpakwar.
Home minister Anil Deshmukh said, "We got their locations from cell towers. Of the 1,885, 1,826 persons have been traced while 59 are yet to be traced." But 824 of those from Mumbai who were in the area were not associated with the meet in any manner." He said those untraceable had switched off their cellphones and they would be booked unless they came forward.
