Amid prevalent chaos and uncertainty over access to the essential services and commodities during the lockdown, we bring you the latest updates from Lucknow.
* Holding attendees of Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi responsible for spurt in Covid-19 positive cases, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has demanded that the Centre should ban the Jamaat and investigate into its source of funding.
*11:15am Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday inaugurated 56 fire tenders in the phase one which will be used for sanitisation work amid coronavirus threat. CM Yogi waved a green flag to launch the fire tenders here during an event.
*10:50am The chief mufti of Aligarh has asked Muslims not to visit graveyards and mosques on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat in view of the country-wide lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus. In a video shared on social media, Mufti Khalid Hamid said that visiting the graves of departed loved ones is a traditional practice among followers of Islam.
*10:33am Yogi government announces Rs 50 lakh insurance cover for UP police personnel

* The scare of coronavirus and the subsequent lockdown has meant even criminals are forced to stay indoors. Between March 16 and March 31 this year, there was a 65% dip in crime rate compared to the same period in 2019. In that period in 2019, 31,441 cases of crime were reported. However, in 2020, only 10,743 cases of crime were reported in the duration.
* The junior resident doctors of Bahraich medical college allegedly thrashed the chief pharmacist of the district hospital and his subordinates on being told to follow social distancing. The chief pharmacist and other paramedical staff suspended work in protest and sat on a dharna demanding the arrest of the attackers.
* In tune with the country’s fight against coronavirus, judiciary of the state too has come forward with contributions to help the state and society meet the challenge. The judges of the Allahabad High Court, officers/officials of the registry and other officers/officials of the subordinate courts have contributed a sum of over Rs 3.31 crores to PM-CARES Fund.
* Support continued to pour in for fight against Covid-19 as eight ministers in the Yogi Adityanath cabinet and two BJP legislators announced contribution to the Covid Care Fund on Tuesday. Eight ministers Nand Gopal Nandi, Brajesh Pathak, Mohsin Raza, Bhupendra Chaudhary, Sidharth Nath Singh, Atul Garg, Mahesh Chandra Gupta and Ajit Singh Pal donated their local area development fund (MLA LAD) of one year amounting Rs 3 crore each.
* A day after a 50-year-old resident of Bawarchi locality in Chowk, who gave shelter to 10 Tablighi Jamaat members, tested positive for coronavirus, the area was sealed on Tuesday, making it the sixth locality to face total lockdown. Barring medical emergency, nobody will be allowed to venture out of homes, said police.
* The discharge of three Covid-19 patients, including a doctor, after full recovery from King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Tuesday came as a morale booster for other patients and the medical team serving infected people round the clock.
* The lockdown has snapped the laggard tag on Lucknow University at least in research departments, which witnessed a dramatic 60% rise in productivity in last 10 days — March 25-April 5.
* Emergency services at Balrampur hospital were disrupted for half an hour on Tuesday as the nursing staff went on a flash strike, accusing hospital director of misbehaving with a staff nurse. Nurses claimed that director Dr Rajiv Lochan, while returning from routine check-up of Covid-19 suspected cases, put used gloves and masks in the pocket of the arpon of a nurse, Clarine Braganza.
