More than 100 people connected with the venue have now been put under self-quarantine and are being tested for Covid-19 by the city’s health authorities. In response, Park said 422 of Seoul’s entertainment venues would be closed until April 19, including escort bars known as “room salons” and discos for the elderly known as “colatec”.
Nearly 1,700 others had already closed their doors or suspended operations under the city’s antivirus recommendations.
But a sizable number had opted to stay open, with local news media showing images of young customers not wearing face masks waiting in long lines to get in. Park said that they urge young people to restrain themselves from acting recklessly and stop putting the whole community in harm’s way.

South Korea on Wednesday reported 53 new coronavirus cases, bringing its total number of infections to 10,384, according to the Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. More than 6,700 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital but 200 people have died.
The country’s Vice Health Minister Kim Gang-lip described this week’s daily tally of new infections as a “positive” sign, but urged the people to keep on guard and stick to social distancing. Kim said that Social distancing is the only vaccine. Kim said, citing small cluster infections at churches and hospitals and new cases coming from overseas.
South Korea’s government has shut schools and issued social-distancing guidelines for the public to slow the spread of the virus, but has not enforced lockdowns or broad business closures.
