Pune: To enforce lockdown and appeal people to stay at home in fight against coronavirus, Pune city police conducted route march in Katraj, Dattanagar, Bharati Vidyapeeth areas on Wednesday evening.

Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham, Jt CP Ravindra Shisve, DCP (Zone 2) Shirish Sardeshpande along with 200 police personnel participated in the march. They were wearing masks and followed social distancing.

“People should buy grocery and other necessary things for at least seven days and should not come out of homes again and again. Coronavirus epidemic has taken a serious turn as many people are affected, and some areas have been sealed. People should take care of themselves and their family members”, Venkatesham said.

He also said that through SEVA Cell, grocery, medicine, food is being provided to the senior citizens, migrant workers and other needy people.

Barricades in several areas
Apart from areas sealed due to a large number of COVID19 patients, local police stations have closed roads in many parts of the city. Police officials said that these steps have been taken especially near congested places and to streamline the movement of people. Check posts have been set up on main roads, and arterial roads have been closed, and police cannot be deployed everywhere to check movement of people, cops said.

Maharashtra has been the worst-affected state with the positive-tested cases nearing the 1,100-mark. In India, the cases are touching the 5,500-mark. Globally, almost 83,700 people have lost their lives and there over a million active cases.
