NEW DELHI: University Grants Commission has constituted a seven-member committee to discuss issues related to the examination and academic session 2020-21.

The UGC has formed this panel as many research scholars have requested the commission that due to Covid-19 lockdown they will not be able to complete their research work on time. It may be noted that the research works are to be submitted with the authorities by April-May.

Coronavirus lockdown: Latest updates

In view of the request made by scholars and UGC affiliated universities the Commission is likely to extend the deadline for submitting the research work by at least six months.

The Central Universities Teachers Association Federation (FEDCUTA) has requested the UCG chairman D P Singh to extend the deadline by at least six months. They said due to the nation-wide lockdown many PhD and MPhil students are unable to complete their thesis/dissertations work as laboratories and libraries are not functioning in the universities. Due to lack of resources they are even not able to carry out their research work that involves necessary field work.

The Committee will give its recommendations on extending the date for submitting research work and on the academic calendar 2020-21.
