GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet on Tuesday decided to deduct 30% of salary of the chief minister, other ministers and MLAs for a period of one year to create a fund that will be used for treatment of Covid-19 patients and management of the disease.
The cabinet also decided to allot Rs 1,000 each to a prescribed number of families depending on number of inhabitants in gaon panchayats, wards of Guwahati Municipal Corporation and other town committees of the state.
Gaon panchayat presidents or members, anchalik panchayat and zilla parishad members or their families would, however, not be eligible to receive financial assistance, irrespective of possessing or not possessing a National Food Security Act (NFSA) card. The state government would ensure authenticity of the beneficiary list, a spokesman said.
The cabinet also decided to bring employees of all departments engaged in the frontline against coronavirus like the ASTC and power department under an insurance scheme of Rs 50 lakh along with health and police department officials. Besides, the departments concerned would ensure regular monthly disbursal of financial assistance to beneficiaries under Kushal Konwar Old Age Pension Scheme.
