Ahmedabad: Juhapura records 7 new coronavirus cases

AHMEDABAD: On Tuesday, Juhapura area of Ahmedabad recorded seven new cases, taking the area's tally to seven. While known hotspots such as Dariyapur and Jamalpur added new cases, two areas including Sola Road and Jashodanagar recorded fresh Covid-19 positive cases, said Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) health officials.
According to the AMC officials, a total of 650 samples were collected on Tuesday alone in an intensive drive to identify new positive cases. The AMC record showed an addition of 20 new cases in a matter of 24 hours, the highest single-day addition for the city. Collectively, over 800 samples had been taken from the AMC areas till Tuesday afternoon.

Area-wise break-up of the new cases include seven from Juhapura, three from Bodakdev, two each from Kalupur and Dariyapur and one each from Sola, Gomtipur, Shah-e-Alam, Navrangpura and Jamalpur.
Analysis of the cases show that 12 positive patients were men and eight were women. The youngest patient was 24-year-old woman from Kalupur, whereas the oldest patients were 65-year-old man and woman from Juhapura and Kalupur respectively.
The state health department officials said that the sudden spike in cases was due to the identification of most affected clusters, aggressive contact tracing and the expansion of test facilities in the past couple of days.
Jayanti Ravi, principal secretary (health & family welfare), said that in all, the government had identified 24 areas in five cities of Gujarat which collectively has the population of 1.45 lakh. "In these zones, intensive door-to-door surveillance is being conducted by 328 workers in 74 teams. In Ahmedabad, there are 24 teams of 120 workers who will cover the population of 14,075," she said.
