*10.43am| 19 new coronavirus positive cases detected in Gujarat - 13 from Ahmedabad, Patan-3 and 1 each from Bhavanagar, Anand and Sabarkantha. Total now of positive cases in the state are 165: Gujarat health department.
*Ahmedabad police has developed an application compiling data of all deployed in the city to implement the lockdown. Commissioner of police Ashish Bhatia said that the mobile application works on nine parameters of illnesses, such as coughing, fever, diarrhoea etc.
*At least 247 people were fined for not maintaining social distancing in different parts of the city, said the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Monday and has also collected Rs100 as penalty from each of the violators.
*Gujarat government has decided to bring in an ordinance to cut the salaries of MLAs. Deputy chief minister Nitin Patel said on Monday that all MLAs will face a 30% cut in salaries with effect from April 1, and an ordinance to this effect will be issued shortly.
*Facing criticism over the meagre number of Covid-19 tests conducted so far, the Gujarat government has ordered 40,000 coronavirus test kits. These kits are expected to be delivered to the state in the next few days.
*In view of the lockdown to check the spread of the novel coronavirus, various entrance exams have been deferred including those for admission to medical and engineering colleges.
*Gujarat health & family welfare department officials announced on Monday that they have identified eight specific clusters in six areas of Ahmedabad as Covid-19 hotspots. Incidentally, Ahmedabad was declared one of the Top 10 hotspots earlier this month.
*Infamous as India’s critically polluted hotspots, Vapi, Ankleshwar, and Vatva in Ahmedabad have shown signs of better respiratory health since the janata curfew on March 22 and the subsequent lockdown from March 25. The improvement in air quality of these industrial estates is significant because the needle had not moved even fractionally over the years despite a raft of government moratoriums and strictures passed.

*In a drastic step to contain Covid-19 spread in vulnerable areas, the Gujarat government on Monday identified 15 hotspots in four cities. State health department officials said that these areas were found to have more concentration of positive cases and transmission.
*As on Monday evening, Gujarat recorded 146 total Covid-19 positive cases – 18 on Monday alone – and 12 deaths. A 62-year-old woman from Vadodara succumbed to infection, the second death for the city. She was the fellow traveller of a man to Sri Lanka who died earlier this month.
