Nanora youth succumbs to accident injuries

MAPUSA:  A Nanora resident succumbed to injuries he had suffered in an accident. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim on Monday, the police said. As per the police, the victim had met with a self accident on Saturday late night. The victim was identified as Prajot Insulkar, 28, a resident of Nanora in Bicholim taluka. According to Mapusa police, they had received a call informing about a self accident on national highway stretch between Green Park junction and Bastora on Saturday late night.  The police informed that some labourers residing along the highway had noticed that the victim, who was riding a two wheeler, was lying in an unconscious state.  On receipt of information, the Mapusa police had rushed to the spot and shifted the victim to the GMC hospital. The police informed that the accident took place when the deceased was travelling from Guirim to Nanora on his bike. As per police, the youth got confused at the traffic diversion effected along the Bastora stretch of the highway due to widening work and lost control of the two-wheeler he was riding, resulting in him crashing into pipes laid along the stretch. Mapusa police had conducted panchanama and registered an accident case. NT

Corona ‘complaint’: trio remanded

MARGAO: Fazel Shaik, Sohail Shaik and Irfaz Shaik, who were arrested by Margao police in connection with a case related to providing information on 104 helpline regarding a corona suspect, were produced before Margao court and their two-day remand was obtained.  Police sub inspector Gautam Salunke, when contacted, said that based on a complaint lodged by Sayed Khaja of Calconda, an offence under sections 143, 144, 147, 148, 323, 324, 506 (ii) and 269 and 188 readwith 149 of IPC was registered against them. Meanwhile, Fazel Shaik has lodged a complaint against Munna Sayed, Rajak Sayed, Arif Sayed, Maqbool Sayed and Ayub Shaik, all from Calconda, for allegedly forming unlawful assembly and assaulting him and others. Police have registered the offence under sections 143, 147, 323, 506 (ii) and 269 and 188 of IPC. According to police, there were ten persons involved in two separate offences registered and of the 10, two are minors. Margao police had arrested 8 persons in connection with two separate offences involving two groups from Maria bandh in Margao for forming unlawful assembly, threatening with dire consequences and causing hurt. According to police, the 104 emergency number was called up to inform that a coronavirus patient had come in Maria band locality, however, upon checking, the person was found to be healthy. Later some persons had assembled at the house of the person who had called up the 104 helpline and there were heated arguments, leading to assault, the police said. NT  

Man dies after dentures get stuck in throat

PONDA: A 49-year-old Warkhande resident died of suffocation on Monday after his dentures got stuck in the throat while he was sleeping. The deceased was identified as Premanand Naik, who was stated to be working as a sweeper at the Police Training Centre (PTS), Valpoi. According to Ponda police, the incident occurred on Sunday late night at around 1.30 am. Premanand Naik had recently started using dentures and on Sunday night he forgot to take them off while sleeping and as a result he choked on them that resulted in his death. Although he was taken to hospital in Ponda, he was declared brought dead. Ponda police have registered a case of unnatural death and stated that the post-mortem examination has confirmed the death as due to choking.  Further investigation is under progress, the police said. Four held for lockdown violation

VASCO: Mormugao police on Monday arrested four persons for alleged violation of order issued by the district magistrate in view of the coronavirus pandemic. As per police, Hari Malla, Girija Malla, Rajesh Malla and Bhagant Malla, all residents of Desterro-Bogda, were allegedly found playing cards without maintaining social distance, thereby violating lockdown restrictions imposed to prevent spread of coronavirus. Mormugao police have arrested all the four persons under sections 188 and 269 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation is being carried out under the supervision of Mormugao PI Paresh Naik.  NT
