The 84th edition of the Masters was scheduled to have taken place this week at Augusta National, but has been rescheduled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, golf's major tournament organisers issued a statement announcing that the Masters will be played outside of April for the first time in the event's history, which began in 1934.

Augusta National has identified 12-15 November as the intended dates to host the 2020 Masters, making it the last major of the year, and, hopefully, the first of 2021.

The same field of players that were due to compete this week at the Masters will compete in November.

There are due to be sixSouth Africans in the field: 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman, 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel, Justin Harding, Louis Oosthuizen, Dylan Frittelli and Erik van Rooyen.

"We want to emphasise that our future plans are incumbent upon favourable counsel and direction from health officials," said Fred Ridley, chairperson of Augusta National Golf Club.

15-time Major winner Tiger Woods is the defending champion.
