As demand for food rises, Noida reaches out to industrialists

Noida: With the demand for food packets going up in the city, the Noida Authority is now reaching out to industrialists and entrepreneurs in an attempt to procure more raw material. Officials are also collaborating with housing societies and residents’ groups to collect cooked food and distribute them.
The officer on special duty, Noida Authority, Avinash Tripathi, said that on March 28, when the drive to distribute food packets was initiated the daily demand was for 15,000 packets. By Monday late evening, the authority had distributed 55,000 packets. Most of the demand is from Harola, Nayabans and Bhangel. “A lot of families stay on rent in these places since rooms are available at lower rates,” he said.
The food that is being distributed is prepared at five community kitchens in Noida. The menu changes daily. The menu mostly has puri, sabzi, chhole, chawal, rajma and kadi. A builder group has been giving 10,000 packets to the authority daily each of which has chapatis, rice, pulses and a vegetable dish.
The Greater Noida Authority has been distributing 8,000 to 8,500 food packets a day. “We have a lower population. Also, the Buddh International Circuit shelter is yet to be used,” said an official. The demand for food packets in Greater Noida has gone up to 8,500 in 10 days. The authority had started the drive by distributing 4,000 packets.
