Watch A C8 Corvette Chase A Porsche 911 GT3 RS At Willow Springs

Getting into a dog fight with a Porsche 911 GT3 RS can be an uphill struggle if your battlefield of choice is a race track and your car isn’t something that’s track-focused by nature.

For example, think of a Ferrari 488 Pista or a McLaren 600LT when imagining something that can stay with the GT3 RS in the corners, but a 2020 Corvette C8? Well, we reckon that depends on the drivers and whether they’re actually focusing on lap times.

On paper, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a bit more powerful than the C8 Corvette, even if the latter is equipped with the optional Z51 Performance Package, which boosts output from 490 HP (497 PS) and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque to 495 HP (502 PS) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm).

The Porsche packs 512 HP (520 PS) and 347 lb-ft (470 Nm), and while the torque is less than the mid-engine Vette’s, the latter weighs more at 3,366 lbs (1,527 kg) vs the GT3 RS’ 3,153 lbs (1,430 kg).

Meanwhile, the Corvette is equipped with an 8-speed dual clutch gearbox, to the Porsche’s 7-speed PDK. Also, both cars send power to their rear wheels exclusively.

The numbers here could be a little misleading. From afar, it really doesn’t seem like the Porsche has that big of an advantage, especially if you factor in the superior torque produced by the Corvette’s 6.2-liter V8 unit. On top of that, the drivers in this video are mostly just playing around.

All things being equal though (two professional race drivers, empty track), which car would you bet your money on?
