LUDHIANA: Two Punjab firms - Oxiclear Pvt Ltd of Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur-based Surgeine Safety Products - have got approval from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for manufacturing N95 and N99 masks for protection against coronavirus. Now, both companies are eligible for supply of these masks to any government or private concern.
What is more, owners of these firms claimed that they would be able to supply these masks almost 40% cheaper than the masks currently available in the market.
General manager of district industries centre, Ludhiana, Mahesh Khanna said, "A few days ago, the samples of N99 and N95 masks manufactured by both these companies were sent to DRDO for testing at its Defence Research and Development Establishment (DRDE) facility in Gwalior. Now the decks have been cleared for both firms to supply these masks in bulk to any government or private concern."
Giving more information, director of industries and commerce Sibin C said, "This is a big breakthrough for Punjab's industry as both N99 and N95 masks play very crucial role in combating Covid-19 but are in very short supply around the globe. Apart from N99 and N95, large scale production of three-ply and normal masks also continues on a large scale in Punjab."
Gagandeep Singh, owner of Oxiclear said, "Since we are now eligible for supply to government departments and hospitals, we are going to scale up production and bring costs down to such a level that without any compromise on the quality, our products will be priced almost 40% less than the currently available products of big brands."
Surgeine Safety Products proprietor G B Singh said, "We produce 4,000-5,000 N-95 masks per day, but will increase the production shortly. We are targeting to come out with aggressive pricing of our masks, 30-40% less than the foreign brands."
