32 more test positive for Covid-19 in UP; tally in state reaches 340

LUCKNOW: As many as 32 new cases took the coronavirus tally for Uttar Pradesh to 340 on Monday. Of the new cases, 25 were related to the Tablighi Jamaat (TJ) category taking the total for the group to 190.
The state surveillance unit bulletin confirmed 23 of the 32 cases and noted that Agra reported a maximum of 10 cases. Six of them had TJ links and others were contacts of old patients. With the new cases, Agra’s tally reached 63 and took over Gautam Buddha Nagar which did not record any new case for the third consecutive day and remained static at 58.
All samples of Agra were tested by King George’s Medical University. Talking about the cases in Agra, CMO Mukesh Vats said: “the new cases took the district tally to 63 including 39 cases with Tablighi connection. Of the 10 cases, six had tablighi connection. Two two were contacts of a previous patient while one is a city based private doctor who came in contact with a patient who tested positive. The last one is the grand-mother of a city resident who returned from Belgium on March 15.”
The case reported in Lucknow was a contact of the jamat attendee. CMO Lucknow, Dr Narendra Agarwal said: “The new patient in Lucknow is a contact of a tablighi attendee who was living in Sadar area of the city. She had reported at a private hospital in Chinhat area but was later shifted to a government hospital.” The tally for Lucknow reached 24 including 13 tablighis.
The patient from Azamgarh was also TJ attendee who took the district tally to four.
Three persons with the jamat connection tested positive to covid-19 in Basti district taking the total to eight. Likewise, three jamaat cases in Firozabad took the district tally to seven.
In another report released by Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, seven cases – three from Bulandshaher, two in Meerut and one each from Saharanpur and Baghpat - were confirmed. District officials informed that all the seven cases belonged to the Tablighi Jamaat.
CMO Meerut Raj Kumar said, “Two of these seven cases – both tablighis – belonged to Meerut. With this, the tally for Meerut stands at 35 including 15 with Tablighi Jamaat connection.”
District administration of Varanasi confirmed that two close contacts of the trader from Gangapur area who died on April 3 but was confirmed to be a covid-19 positive the next day also tested positive to the infection on Monday. The test was undertaken by experts at IMS BHU who revealed that the deceased trader’s wife and daughter in law were Covid-19 patients.
