Some Crusaders rugby players were caught breaking the lockdown rules when they were spotted training together in Christchurch on Monday.
A witness told the Newshub website that the players passed and kicked a rugby ball around at a park.
"We're all struggling through this lockdown," said the witness. "And none of us particularly want to be doing it, but we know it's the best thing to do. I was disappointed before I realised who they were."
Crusaders CEO Colin Mansbridge said he would reprimand those involved.
"They shouldn't have been at the same location. It wasn't planned and they should know better. I have spoken to those involved, and will reinforce that again tonight."
New Zealand is currently in a four-week lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
One of the Crusaders players identified as being part of the group is All Blacks flyhalf Richie Mo'unga.
When Super Rugby was suspended due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the defending champions were third on the overall standings, having won five out of six matches.
