Pune: Between Sunday evening (8.30 pm) and Monday evening, 41 new patients tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) in Pune city. This has taken the total in Pune district to 141 patients till Monday.

As per health authorities, 28 of these patients are with private and government hospitals in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, and seven are with Sassoon General Hospital under the State Health Department. One patient is from Pune rural.

Indicating the gravity of the spread of COVID-19 in the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to seal areas from Maharshi Nagar (Gultekdi) to Naidu Hospital (RTO office) and Kondhwa area till further orders. The decision will be implemented from Monday midnight, and there will be no movement in these areas. Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad has given a letter to the police department to seal these entire areas till further orders.

While speaking to Sakal Times, Gaikwad said, “In our survey, we found that there are 37 COVID-infected patients in areas from Gultekdi to Naidu Hospital. It is one of the concentrated parts of infected people. We cannot pinpoint a certain area and decided to seal the entire stretch. There are five patients in Kondhwa area. We have also decided to seal areas such as Khadki.”

He said, “People should stay at home and use masks in homes also. Residential movements will be restricted. Only essential services such as vegetables and milk will be supplied to these areas. Only those people will be allowed to supply these essential items.”

He pointed out that if they find patients concentrated in certain areas, they will also be sealed. He appealed to citizens in these areas to store essential items at least for seven days.

“Of the total, 113 cases have been reported from areas falling under the PMC jurisdiction. In PCMC (Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation), there are 20 cases, while rural parts account for eight infections so far,” said District Collector Naval Kishore Ram.

For other localities, the administration has issued an advisory calling on residents to arrange essential commodities for seven days, the collector added.
